Ernest Miller Hemingway is an American novelist, short story writer, journalist and sportsman. His frugal and refined style - which he calls the iceberg theory - has a strong influence on twentieth-century novels, while his adventurous lifestyle and public image leave this admiration for generations to come. Hemingway produced most of his work from the mid-1920s to the mid-1950s, and he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. He has published seven novels, six collections of short stories, and two non-fiction. Three of his novels, four short stories anthologies and three non-fiction works were published posthumously. Many of his works are considered classics of American literature. Hemingway grew up in Oak Park, Illinois. A high school graduate, he was a reporter for the Kansas City Star for several months before leaving for the Italian Front to join the military as an ambulance driver during World War I. In 1918, he was seriously injured and returned home.
Some of the most well-known works of this American modernist author include The Old Man and the Sea, A Farewell to Arms, and For Whom the Bell Tolls. Hemingway, a Nobel Laureate and member of the"Lost Generation", was known for his daring lifestyle as well as his beautifully austere writing style.
