Nikola Tesla is the Serbo-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer and futurist best known for his contributions to the design of modern AC systems. Born and raised in the Austrian Empire, Tesla studied engineering and physics in the 1870s without a graduate, gaining practical experience in the early 1880s while working in telephony and in Continental Edison in the new electric energy industry. In 1884, he emigrated to the United States, where he naturalized. He briefly worked at Edison Machine Works in New York City before retiring himself. With the help of its partners to finance and commercialize its ideas, Tesla set up laboratories and businesses in New York City to develop a wide range of electrical and mechanical equipment.

The electrical motor, arc lighting, and AC power were all devised by this electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and physicist. In New York, he conducted high-voltage, high-frequency power tests that contributed to the discovery of radio communication.
