Ippy eventually received her degree from Le Cordon Bleu in San Francisco. Chef Ippy was the youngest finalist on Food Network’s popular show “Food Network Star” when he was 23.
Later that year, Forbes Magazine named Chef Ippy to their list of the “30 under 30” in the food and wine industry, and he was one of 10 chefs competing in Philadelphia for Forbes’ “Best Chef in America” title.
To serve the food he grew up eating at his father’s Hawaiian plate lunch restaurant, Chef Ippy and his family opened Ippy’s Hawaiian BBQ, bringing his passion for cooking home.
And to top it all off, Aiona’s recently released “Easy Hawaiian Cookbook” is a runaway success. It is featured on Amazon as the top new title in Pacific Rim Cooking, Food, and Wine and published by Rockridge Press in Oakland, California.
The late Masayo Seo Hamora, a cook at Aiona’s father’s Kamuela Deli and proprietor of his eatery in Waimea, received the book’s dedication.
Aiona referred to her as “an important part of our family” and “one of the OGs of Waimea.” In the book, he also shared her recipe for paniolo beef stew.
