John Tobias is an American comic artist, graphic designer, video game designer and writer. Tobias is best known for creating the Mortal Kombat series alongside Ed Boon. Tobias loves to draw from an early age, inspired by comics. In high school, he took weekend classes at the Art Academy of Chicago. He was an artist on The Real Ghostbusters comic book before joining Midway Games. Tobias said his initial career plan was to become a manga artist, but advancements in graphics at the time made the video game industry more attractive to him. He worked on the original arcade version of Smash TV before the success of Mortal Kombat in 1992. Tobias created the plot, theme, and setting for the original Mortal Kombat series; including Outworld and Netherrealm. He's also responsible for designing the full character roster for the very first games in the series at Mortal Kombat 4
