He had believed that his biological father was American actor Robert Vaughn, before a paternity investigation identified his biological father as George Albert Harley de Vere Drummond. Matthew is married to German model Claudia Schiffer, with whom he has three children.

Matthew’s paternal grandfather was George Henry de Vere Drummond (the son of George James Drummond and Elizabeth Cecile Sophia Norman). Matthew’s great-grandfather George was the son of George Drummond and Marianne Portman. Elizabeth was the daughter of The Rev. Frederick John Norman and Lady Adeliza Elizabeth Gertrude Manners.
