Michael Mann is an American director, screenwriter, and producer, of both film and television. He has directed the films Thief, The Keep, Manhunter, The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Heat, The Insider, Ali, Collateral, Miami Vice, Public Enemies, and Blackhat. He wrote or co-wrote all of his films except for Collateral and Blackhat. For television shows, he created, and wrote for, Vega$, wrote episodes of Crime Story, directed the pilot for Luck and an episode of Tokyo Vice, and was an executive producer on the show Miami Vice; he also wrote and directed the made-for-tv movies The Jericho Mile and L.A. Takedown.

Michael is the son of Esther Malkah and Jack Mann, who were grocers. His father was a Jewish emigrant, born in Russia. His mother was born in Illinois, to Russian Jewish parents. He is married to Summer Mann, and has four children.
